This was an intresting documnetary, about the homeless world cup. The event from 2006 brought together many people, and helped give homeless people from around the globe confidence, and pride. I found this video on Hulu.com.

This is the video camera that I believe is revolutionary in its size (for candid work), media (affordable and instantly editable SDHC cards) and format (native full HD Final Cut Pro MPEG 2 Quicktime files) Decent stills can be pulled at 2 megapixel size for online use at a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Audio can be recorded at 48K 16bit in PCM format (exactly what FCP wants). This one device with a good tripod and a wide angle conversion lens and a telephoto conversion lens would really be all you need besides good microphones to capture all your New Media content. This camera and a laptop with FCP would enable very quick upload of content to the Web. Need I say more, New Tools for a New Media! Watch promo video here

This video I found on YouTube deals with Sydney, Australia’s Earth hour. The city turned off it’s lights, literally, for an hour, to show politicians and leaders that the environment is important to them. Earth hour in Sydney has recently sparked a global Earth Hour, which is shown in the video. The event has received celebrity endorsement, as well as global support. Cities around the globe have been turning off lights in their most famous landmarks.

I wasn’t sure if we are still supposed to be blogging about the enivronment. However, this article deals with adding fish oil to the diet of cows to reduce the green house gases they omit. It is a strange topic but interesting.

Fish Oils Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Flatulent Cows

The MoveOn.org Power Up Campaign kicks off nationwide on Saturday, March 28, 2009. Our country faces daunting challenges and needs your help. Millions of Americans are losing their jobs and their homes. The country has relied on foreign oil and has an addiction to dirty and unsustainable energy.
There’s a clear path forward to solve many of these problems: President Obama’s plan to create millions of new green jobs and make a massive switch to a New Energy Economy. But the big oil and coal lobbies will fight tooth and nail to preserve the status quo.
Working on a grassroots level, MoveOn.org will support President Obama’s plan and pressure members of Congress to support this initiative.

Envision Solar International, Inc. has developed a way to make a solar array into covered parking/shelter areas. They call it a Solar Grove, and some pretty cool pictures are available here. They’ve also got some ideas about creating a community planned around solar power and using solar arrays to create shade in your back yard.

From the Associated Press:
“Fish caught near wastewater treatment plants serving five major U.S. cities had residues of pharmaceuticals in them, including medicines used to treat high cholesterol, allergies, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder and depression, researchers reported Wednesday.”

This study was funded by the EPA with a $150,000 grant to the researchers. I personally believe we are over medicating our society and focus entirely too little on prevention.
